Play a round of your favourite card game, or turn one card face up by candlelight and read it by intuition. Skeletons, dripping suits and gothic ornament in red and black run through all 54 cards. Memento mori, Latin for 'remember that you will die', is the old theme of skulls and hourglasses in medieval and baroque art, a reminder to live this evening well.
